Date & Time 04 - Friday, November 8, 2019
Location :- National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee (Uttarakhand)

The Centre for Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology for “Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management” is sanctioned to Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri (MPKV) by the Education Division of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under National Agricultural Higher Education Programme (NAHEP). One of the objectives of the Center for Advanced Agricultural Science & Technology (CAAST) on Climate Smart Agriculture & Water Management (CSAWM) is to develop the capacity amongst the faculties and scientists for the development and adoption of the precise climate smart agriculture and water management technologies. Also, as per the mandates, the project team is planning to submit one externally funded project on “Climate Smart Agricultural Watershed” under CAAST. This watershed will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and will generate hydrological data for research on watershed management. In this view, the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee (Uttarakhand), has organized 5-day training course from November 4-8, 2019 on “Tools and Techniques for Hydrological Investigations” to be held at National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee (Uttarakhand).

  1. Dr. M.G. Shinde, Co-Principal Investigator and DDO (CAAST-CSAWM), MPKV Rahuri.
  2. Dr. V. S. Malunjkar, Research Associate (SWCE), (CAAST-CSAWM), MPKV Rahuri.

Participants

Five days training course on “Tools and Techniques for Hydrological Investigations” organized by Hydrological Investigation Division (HID), National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee (Uttarakhand) was consist of series lectures by NIH and IIT Roorkee faculties/ experts on tools and techniques used in hydrology and water resources. Total 35 professionals (engineers, scientists, policymakers & academicians) of various governments, private organizations actively working in water resources and agencies concerned with hydrological investigations, water resources planning and management, Masters students and Research scholars across and outside the country were registered and participated in the training course.

Outcome
The training course has covered the theoretical and practical aspects, case studies, tutorials, hands-on sessions on computers, laboratory, field visit and demonstration of different tools and techniques related with spring hydrology, isotopic analysis and rainwater harvesting techniques. The case studies and practical demonstration has been delivered through different remote sensing and GIS applications/ software. Also, the application of QGIS and QSWAT has been demonstrated for un-gauged micro-watershed.

Overall the training course was interactive and informative. The different aspects (tools/instruments and methodologies) for the development of “Climate Smart Agricultural Watershed” under CAAST project were discussed during the different interactive sessions with faculties/ scientists of NIH/ IIT Roorkee and participants of the training course.
