An expert lecture entitled “Seriousness of Hazardous Waste and its Disposal" was organized by CAAST-CSAWM, MPKV, Rahuri at Audio Visual hall, PGI, MPKV, Rahuri during October, 11, 2019. Dr. P. L. Kulwal (CAAST Team Member) introduced and welcomed guests, explained importance of the management and safe handling of hazardous waste also gave brief introduction on university activities in this regard. Director of Instruction & Dean Faculty of Agriculture chaired the lecture session and Mr. Rakesh Mishra, Marketing Head, Maharashtra Enviro Power LTD, Ranjangaon (MIDC), Pune was an expert to deliver a talk on“Seriousness of Hazardous Waste and its Disposal”. He explained about scope and work of his firm, procedure for waste collection, safe transportation, and disposal of the waste mainly by two ways; land fill compost method and plasma gasification method. He also explained about labeling of waste, types of waste i.e. (C) Corrosive, (R) Reactive, (I) Ignitable and (T) Toxicity (heavy metal) and color copy codes for disposal. Further, he suggested that, university can store waste-generated in the campus for 180 days further waste processing firm can handle the collected waste. Mr. Mishra also explained need of collection, inspection, segregation, stabilization of toxic metals and highly acidic & basic nature components.

Participants
Overall 125 participants including scientists, faculty members, nodal officers and students (M.Sc. / M.Tech and Ph.D.) in agriculture have participated in the experts lecture.
Outcome:
While creating awareness amongst the students, an expert explained about following points; 
•    Uncontrolled emission of toxic gasses during experimentation and its health hazardous.
•    Importance of containers, their placement while temporary storing of the hazardous chemicals. 
•    Monitoring while storage, handling of reactive agents and metals, physical and chemical analysis methods, application of Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
•    Elaborated on Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guideline for waste sample analysis, secured landfill design and plasma rector for gasification etc.

Overall outcome of the activity was, awarens amongst students and faculty about seriousness of hazardous waste and its disposal at MPKV Rahuri.
